Whispers of Our Ancestors

“Whispers of Our Ancestors” was a track that originally dropped on the first Liquid Bloom album Shaman’s Eye in 2006, featuring Sarah West’s ethereal vocals and Robert Mirabal’s native Taos Flutes. This deep and mysterious soundscape has now been reimagined into a kaleidoscope of grooves and textures, remixed by some of the top talent from the Desert Trax roster and beyond.

Moon Frog opens the collection with an 808-infused kick and rolling hi-hats—a new twist from the hang drummer Bart Mills. The gentle tribal groove last of Ancestral Elephants gives way to Jacob Paskus’ lush downtempo synthesis as Stratusphere. Master Minded delivers an intricately glitchy halftime take that brings the song into a contemporary production space. Desert Trax core member Griffin Paisely goes with his techno approach, and percussionist Scott Stirling leans into his strengths on a Drumspyder tech house remix. Momentology & DJ Taz Rashid turned in two versions, an upbeat dance mover and a chilled out yoga dub. Perennial label favorite Bobby West always comes through with a delicate and lush sound, and this time closes with an embracing, ambient Erothyme offering.
